Believed to have been introduced to Tanzania in the 16th century from Ethiopia, the high quality produce soon became Tanzania's most lucrative export.

Msumbi Estate was founded in 2000 with the aim of stimulating domestic consumption of export grade coffee, creating added value for the Tanzanian economy.
